5 Afternoons Programs

We are accepting PM applications for 2012-2013 school year.

Our PM Program is very much like our Five Mornings Program and is offered simply as an alternative to children for whom afternoons work better. It contains all that is needed for our preschoolers to continue their “journey of learning” while also fostering their love of learning.

As is true in all our classrooms, the PM program is founded on Montessori pedagogy – Practical Life materials to develop fine motor skills, Language activities to help develop letter/sound recognition and emergent reading, Sensorial materials to develop awareness of all one’s senses, Math materials to continue establishing counting, one-to-one correspondence and beginning addition/subtraction. The program also contains an abundance of Manipulatives, Art activities (painting, drawing, special projects), science projects, lots of books and enough space for lots of freedom.

The PM day consists of at least two Circle Times (for attendance, work demonstrations, reading a book, etc.), one or two Work Times (a free choice period where children choose their own work), an Outdoor Time (on our rooftop playground), a Book Time (where children can look at books and hear one read to them – perhaps by a parent) and a nutritious snack.
